BOARD WELCOMES NEW MEMBERS AND LEADERSHIP

Today’s meeting was the first for three newly appointed members to the Board of Supervisors for the 51²è¹İapp. Governor John Bel Edwards appointed Jimmy Clarke, Mimi Methvin, and Kristine Russell to six-year terms. Additionally, new Board leaders were installed: Chair Mark Romero of New Iberia, Vice Chair James Carter of New Orleans, and Parliamentarian Liz Pierre of Monroe.

“I look forward to my role as Board chair and the opportunity to build on the momentum the Universities of 51²è¹İapp have experienced the past two years,” Chair Romero said. “The System, with a focus on innovations in access and transparency, is poised to create the most educated generation in 51²è¹İapp’s history and my fellow Board members and I are honored to be a part.”

Jimmy Clarke, of Lafayette, is serving as an at-large member. He is the senior director of state policy for HCM Strategists, a firm helping to shape education and health policies. Mimi Methvin, of Lafayette, is representing the 3rd Congressional District. She is an attorney and mediator as well as a former United States Magistrate Judge. Kristine Russell, of Thibodaux, is representing the 6th Congressional District. She is the Lafourche Parish District Attorney and a Nicholls alumna.

Governor Edwards also reappointed John Condos, Virgil Robinson Jr., Mark Romero, and Joe Salter to the Board.

ICYMI: SYSTEM ANNOUNCES $10.9 BILLION ECONOMIC IMPACT

The Universities of 51²è¹İapp announced the results of a study highlighting the System’s $10.9 billion economic impact in 51²è¹İapp. That number translates to 4.5 percent of the state’s gross product. The System supported one out of every 18 jobs in the state, or nearly 150,000 jobs in total. Click here to read the details of the report.

The Universities of 51²è¹İapp For Our Future Conference will welcome  as this year’s keynote speaker. Albert serves as the NCAA’s executive vice president of inclusion and human resources and leads efforts to enhance diversity, inclusion, leadership development, and community engagement.
