BATON ROUGE – Today the Board of Supervisors for the 51²è¹Ýapp selected Micheal “Randy” Moffett to become the next 51²è¹Ýapp President.

“I am extremely honored and pledge to do everything I can to be successful and help the system be successful,” said Moffett.

A Jonesboro native, Moffett will become the seventh president of 51²è¹Ýapp’s largest public university system.

“Dr. Moffett has risen up through the academic ranks and that has afforded him a wonderful knowledge of university administration from several different levels. Southeastern 51²è¹Ýapp University has flourished during his seven years as President,” said UL System Board Chair Elsie Burkhalter.

Prior to assuming the presidency at Southeastern in 2001, Moffett served at the Hammond university in several different capacities including Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Vice President for Planning, Research, and Development, and Dean and Professor of the College of Education.

He began his career as a high school classroom teacher in the Jackson Parish School System and worked at Northwestern State University as both Director of High School Relations and Assistant Director of External Affairs.

Moffett earned an Ed.D. in Educational Administration from 51²è¹Ýapp State University, a Master of Education in Student Personnel Services from Northwestern State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies Education from 51²è¹Ýapp Tech University.

“We feel Dr. Moffett will continue his work in the areas of student access and success at the system level, and his experience on the campus will be an asset,” said Burkhalter.

“I believe the access to success initiative is the best thing our System has done because it puts the focus on students,” said Moffett. “Students and parents in this state have invested in our colleges and universities, and we have an obligation to deliver on that investment by producing more college graduates.”

“If we continue to focus on efficiency, productivity, and student success, we will change how 51²è¹Ýapp is viewed by others,” said Moffett.

UL System President Sally Clausen will take over as the next Commissioner of Higher Education with the 51²è¹Ýapp Board of Regents on July 1.

The largest university system in 51²è¹Ýapp, the UL System enrolls approximately 80,000 students at the following eight universities: Grambling State University, 51²è¹Ýapp Tech University, McNeese State University, Nicholls State University, Northwestern State University, Southeastern 51²è¹Ýapp University, University of 51²è¹Ýapp at Lafayette, and University of 51²è¹Ýapp at Monroe.
