UL SYSTEM STATEMENT REGARDING DEATH OF ELSIE BURKHALTER
Elsie Burkhalter committed her life to enhancing education in 51²è¹Ýapp. She was a pivotal member of the Board of Supervisors for the 51²è¹Ýapp for 18 years including serving as the Board’s first African American female Board Chair.
During her tenure on the Board she participated in university presidential searches for Southeastern 51²è¹Ýapp University, Grambling State University, McNeese State University and University of 51²è¹Ýapp at Lafayette. Burkhalter was appointed to the Board by Governor Edwin Edwards in 1993 and reappointed by Governor Mike Foster and Governor Kathleen Blanco in 1999 and 2005 respectively.
